FILLIES FOCUS
Smart Missile Filly Chloe’s Comet Flies in Jump Out
Fast filly Chloe’s Comet impressed all at BTX HQ earlier in the week when storming to victory in her first jump out of the preparation at Murray Bridge. Untouched through the line showcasing her balanced action and athleticism, the daughter of Group 1 producing stallion Smart Missile has always been highly touted by the Clarken team. Whilst an unknown on her opposition, the ease with which she disposed of her rivals given her inexperience is extremely encouraging for all owners.
The Clarken team will give her time in their excellent new facility at Sellick Hill to progress physically before returning for a second jump out to prepare for a racing debut.
Fillies Pack matriarch Until Valhalla returns to the races next week with confirmation from the team whether she heads to Gosford on Thursday for a $60, 000 1200m Super Maiden, the same class of race Jon Bon won on debut, or if she heads to Newcastle on Derby Day to contest a $42,000 Fillies and Mares Maiden Hcp over 1300m. The team will nominate for both early next week before deciding which way to go during the middle of next week.
Until Valhalla was sublime on debut, charging home late at Hawkesbury to finish second by a 0.1 of a length. That form will ensure Until Valhalla is short in the market where the form around her has held up handsomely with 3rd place-getter No More Lies winning at her most recent start.
Until Valhalla heads to the races whilst La Magia and Think You Can continue their preparations. La Magia is due to debut in November.
The $2M Spring Champion Stakes has been a key target race for a variety of Waterhouse and Bott three-year-olds with last start Gloaming Stakes winner Raf Attack and previous start Dulcify Stakes winner Ganbare taking out the two major lead-ups to the Group 1 contest for the Waterhouse and Bott team. Ganbare is a key runner for BTX racing as he is sired by Broodmare Pack sire Maurice. A 3-year-old colt, the striking son of Maurice is searching to become his sire’s 6th Group 1 winner and first since Hitotsu.
Maurice only has a small crop of runners in Australia at the moment having been absent from the Australian breeding season during Covid. The ability for him to produce such high-quality stock creates great hype in the market for when his first yearlings re-enter the market in 2025.
Keen-eyed Jon Bon fans would pick up a key runner in Randwick’s feature race the $2M Spring Champion Stakes. It’s not either of the Waterhouse and Bott-trained runners.
The John Sargent trained Glad You Think So by So You Think out of Gladwell is bred on the exact same cross as Jon Bon. Gladwell is by key broodmare sire Anabaa just like Jon Bon’s dam Anabaa’s Legacy. Gladwell is out of a Rory’s Jester mare with both horses featuring 2 crosses of Northern Dancer in their 4th line and 2 crosses of Northern Dancer in their 5th line. The pair were both sold as yearlings with Jon Bon fetching $350,000 at the Magic Millions, whilst Glad You Think So was bought for $400,000 at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.
Strikingly similar physically, the pair both feature long strong actions with low head carriage, allowing them to extend perfectly over middle distances. The pair were both in their maiden racing preparations this spring and are expected to battle potentially on multiple occasions in the Sydney autumn.

Militarize takes Trilogy to Racing’s Biggest Stage
Newgate and Trilogy-owned star colt Militarize heads to arguably Australia’s biggest race when he takes on some of the weight for age superstars of the world in the 103rd running of the W.S Cox Plate. Coming off a similar lead-up run as Coolmore imperial stallion So You Think in the Caulfield Guineas, the three-time Group 1 winner will carry 49.5kg when ridden by up-and-coming apprentice Zac Lloyd where he is currently rated an $8 chance.
The stellar lineup which is highlighted by 8 multiple Group 1 winners out of the 12-horse field includes Hong Kong superstar Romantic Warrior, Melbourne Cup hero and Ciaron Maher leading chance Gold Trip, as well as familiar local hopes, Mr Brightside, Alligator Blood, Fangirl and Zaaki.
Already assured a career at stud at the conclusion of his racing career, Cox Plate glory as a 3-year-old would double his current value from an estimated $30M to $60M. Only a trio of 3-year-olds have secured the Cox Plate since the turn of the century, including the aforementioned So You Think, Snitzel colt Shamus Award and New Zealand superstar Savabeel, all three multiple Group 1 producing sires at stud where So You Think and Savabeel regularly compete for Champion Sire honours.
BTX Racing partners have a variety of partners with runners over the weekend with a separate email coming through tomorrow so you don’t miss any of the weekend’s key chances.
